Seafloor Mapping for Onshore/Offshore Bedrock Correlation in Offshore Basins, Western Newfoundland

This project will demonstrate the benefits of a sedimentary basin-to-seafloor integration of geophysical, geological and bathymetric data to map the offshore extent of Carboniferous bedrock, offshore western Newfoundland. In particular, the research will prove the significant advantages of combining conventional industry (seismic and well) and potential field (aeromagnetic/gravity) data with high-resolution seismic and multibeam bathymetric data to map offshore bedrock contacts and unconformities, structures (faults, fold axes) and features (gas vents) with unrivaled precision compared to stand-alone interpretations.
