Bedford Basin Collection

Bedford Basin is a roughly 17 km² semi-enclosed basin at the head of Halifax Harbour, Nova Scotia, and the site of one of the longest continuously running ocean time series in the region, monitored weekly by Fisheries and Oceans Canada since 1992 for temperature, salinity, oxygen, and phytoplankton. Since 2014, Dalhousie University has added environmental DNA sampling in collaboration with DFO to capture finer-scale detail on the plankton community. This collection groups the Bedford Basin Monitoring Program together with related mooring, hydrographic, and biological datasets from the same location into a single, place-based entry point.
